*Note this Blog post is based on a Real Life Conversation
From having a conversation with a person that was looking to make the transition into Project Management, it was clear to see that it can be beneficial to start off in an smaller role to develop the soft and hard skills needed to see a project through to completion, before then delving into something new. I hope you can enjoy the read!
How do you get into project management?
Through speaking to many people, family and friends alike was able to gain a good rapport on how to make the transition from studying Philosophy at university into Project Management. One of the key things is the willingness of mind to start off in a smaller role and work from there.
What are some of the things that you should consider along the way?
If you are inclined towards being introvert, will have to adapt to the fact that project management requires a lot of communication considering that you will have to be in a lot of meetings, and speaking to different stakeholder. if you have have a low social battery then it may not the field for you, as a lot of liaising is involved with being the kind of middle person.
What is some advise you'd give to someone trying to pursue a career after university?
When going into job interviews, have in mind a sense of self worth. Job interviews are not only there for you to show why your the right person for the role but also to ask questions and see whether the organisation is the right fit for you in helping to nurture your potential to the fullest. So when the interviewer asks if you have any questions, say yes!!
What has life taught you recently?
As have grown older, I have come to realise that life is only an illusion of what someone is expected to do or be within a certain time frame. Everyones journey and objective in life is different & relative to them so shouldn't allow other peoples route to affect you.
What does Self Realisation mean to you and do you think you have reached it?
Self realisation is an ongoing process that allows you to adapt to different situations in your life, so I believe I'm striving to reach my full potential.
Well said indeed; great conversation & through conversation what oozed was optimism to be great. I definitely walked with an extra leap in step & felt reenergised through the conversation :)
