*Note this Blog post is based on a Real Life Conversation
Speaking to a Teacher working in a school gave me a real insight into how transitioning from a student to a teacher wanting to pass on some valuable experience and life lessons looks like.
Amongst this what was covered and really hit home was the importance of devoting time and effort towards understanding every kids upbringing. Working with parents the whole way through the process. Hope you enjoy the read!
Practical Scenario:
A student in a secondary school was seen wearing a bullet proof vest to school. He was excluded for 3 days with no dialogue taking place in the process of this. Could this have been handled differently? .. 100% but as was discussed with the teacher I was speaking to, it comes down to willingness of teachers to want to take the time out to understanding the underlying thing at hand with the student.
Practical Solution:
Whether working within a school or with students in any capacity, we have to humble ourselves and really take the time to go into the world of the youth and future. The outcome as a result of this is that a relationship of trust can be built, and instead of making a rash decision that could impact the rest of their lives they could come to a respected teacher for some advice on how to navigate a situation in a better way.
Question of the conversation - *What advice would you give to parents trying to raise high achieving children?
From a young age enrol your child into activities that will bring out their talents, competitive edge and keep them out of trouble. This could be things such as:
1. playing a musical instrument.
2. Doing sports (especially extreme sports like rock climbing, or in the teachers case go Karting being a once upon a time local champion *sigh*).
3. Reading on a topic of interest from early on and becoming well informed on the area.
The common understanding that we had was that the time and effort that we spent investing in our children early on would pay dividends for their future longevity.
Safe to say that this conversation was steered by the upmost sincerity, and we hope that you Enjoyed your read! 'The youth is the future of our tomorrow ..
